This case fits most tablets but was designed to fit the iPad Air.  The Mosaic stitch brings awesomeness to your iPad, and the handles provide great functionality, allowing you to carry more things.  With this case your iPad would be completely safe from dust, scratches and serious damage.  Case makes a great gift for your iPad or for a friend.

Supplies:

  • Caron Simply Soft (less than 1 skein)
    • Oceana
    • Orchid
  • 4.5mm Hook

Finished Size:

8in by 11 1/2in

Stitches:

CH – Chain

SS – Slip Stitch

SC – Single Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

HDC – Half Double Crochet

EDC – Extended Double Crochet

LSC – Long Single Crochet

Notes:
  • iPad case is worked in the round, joining each round with a SS, each round begins with a CH1, the CH1 does not count as a stitch.

  • When you see a * to * that means the stitch sequence is repeated, the number of times is indicated after the final *.  Have Fun!

iPad Case Body:

With Orchid CH72, being careful not to twist SS to beginning CH.

Round 1: CH1, SC in same stitch as SS and in each CH space around, SS to first SC. (72SC)

Round 2: CH1, SC in same stitch as SS and in each CH space around, change color to Oceana on last stitch, SS to first SC. (72SC)

Round 3: CH1, DC in same stitch as SS, DC in next stitch, HDC in next, SC in next, *CH2, skip 2 stitches, SC, HDC, DC, DC, EDC, EDC, DC, DC, HDC, SC* 5 times, CH2, skip 2 stitches, SC, HDC, DC, DC, EDC, EDC, SS to first DC. (12SC, 12 HDC, 24DC, 12EDC, 6CH2 spaces)

Round 4: Repeat round 3, changing color to Orchid on final stitch in round 4. (12SC, 12 HDC, 24DC, 12EDC, 6CH2 spaces)

Round 5: CH1, SC in same stitch as SS, SC in next 3 stitches, [*LSC (into skipped stitches from round 2) over the CH2 space,* 2 times, SC in the next 10 stitches,] repeat from [ ] 4 more times, *LSC (into skipped stitches from round 2) over the CH2 space,* 2 times, SC in the next 6 stitches, SS to first SC of round. (60SC, 12LSC)

Round 6: CH1, SC in same stitch as SS and in each stitch around, change color to Oceana on last stitch, SS to first SC. (72SC)

Round 7: CH1, SC in same stitch as SS, HDC, DC, DC, EDC, EDC, DC, DC, HDC, SC, *CH2, skip next two stitches, SC, HDC, DC, DC, EDC, EDC, DC, DC, HDC, SC* 5 times, CH 2, skip last two stitches and SS to first SC of round. (12SC, 12 HDC, 24DC, 12EDC, 6CH2 spaces)

Round 8: Repeat round 7, changing color to Orchid on final stitch in round 8. (12SC, 12 HDC, 24DC, 12EDC, 6CH2 spaces)

Round 9: Repeat round 5. (60SC, 12LSC)

Round 10: Repeat round 6. (72SC)

Rounds 11 through 38: repeat rounds 3 through 10; 3 more times, then repeat rounds 3 through 6 once more. Do not fasten off, you should have both your Orchid and Oceana colors attached to work, and Orchid should be your working color.

Handles:

For the handles rounds; carry both colors as you work, hiding the color not in use by crocheting over carried yarn and stitch.

Round 39: In Orchid, CH 1, SC in same stitch as SS, SC in next 10 stitches.  Working over the OCEANA yarn and skipping the stitches from row 38, work 14SC around OCEANA yarn, skip 14 stitches form row 38, SC in the next 22 stitches, 14SC over the OCEANA yarn only skipping the stitches from round 38, skip 14 stitches and SC in next 11 stitches, SS to fist SC of round. (44SC in stitches 28SC over yarn, 72 SC total)

Round 40: CH1, SC in same stitch, SC in each stitch around changing to OCEANA on last stitch, SS to first SC of round. (72SC)

Round 41: CH1, SC in same stitch, SC in each stitch around changing to ORCHID on last stitch, SS to first SC of round. (72SC)

Round 42: CH1, SC in same stitch, SC in each stitch around, SS to first SC of round. (72SC)

Round 43: CH1, SC in same stitch, SC in each stitch around, SS to first SC of round, fasten off and weave in ends. (72SC)

Assemble or Finish Up:

  1. Close the bottom of case
    1. With back side facing, attach yarn in corner space, make sure you go through both front and back stitches.
    2. CH1, SC in same stitch and in each stitch to end, going through both sides front and back closing up the bag.  Fasten Off. (36SC)
  2. From the back of the case locate the middle of handle hole, you should have 14 stitches, we will be working in the middle two stitches leaving you with 6 stitches on each side.
    1. Attach yarn in first stitch, CH15 and SS yarn into next middle stitch, fasten off and weave in ends.
  3. Attach Button
    1. Find the Center of handle on front of piece.
    2. Sew button into place around row 42.
