Multi Pocket Notebook Cover – Free Crochet Pattern

Turn any notebook into a functional work of art.  This notebook cover features inside pockets on each side to carry your essentials.   With this cover you can carry a few pens and/or your ear buds.  This cover fits any notebook that is sized 10 1/2in by 8in., it will fit over a single subject or 5 subject notebook.

11 1/2in. by 10in.

  • Caron Simply Soft Yarns (less than one skein each)

    • Purple
    • Neon Green
    • Lime Light
    • Super Duper Yellow
  • 5.0 mm hook

Stitches

CH – Chain

SS – Slip Stitch

SC – Single Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

EDC – Extended Double Crochet

Notes

This notebook is worked in pieces then crocheted together.

This pattern uses a dropped stitch or Extended Double Crochet (stitch is made into stitch 2 rows below), click on the EDC link above for more details.

Notebook Cover

With your 5.0mm hook and Dark Country Blue, CH66.

Row 1: DC in second CH from hook, DC in next CH space, *CH1, skip one CH space, DC in the next 5 CH spaces,* 10 times, CH1, skip one CH space, DC in last 2 CH spaces, CH1, turn work. (54DC, 11CH1 spaces)

After row one complete you should have 5DC’s then a CH space.

Row 2: DC in first DC, DC in next DC, *working over the CH1 space, EDC in CH1 space that was skipped from starting CH, DC in next 2 DC’s, CH1, skip one DC, DC in next 2DC’s,* 10 times, working over the CH1 space, EDC in CH1 space that was skipped from starting CH, DC in next 2 DC’s, CH1, turn work. (44DC, 11EDC, 10CH1 spaces)

The stitches for the panels are the same as the front cover, however I made one panel in solid Purple and one panel alternating Super Duper Yellow, and Lime Light, every other row to show how the stitch looks with various mash-ups.  You can decide where you would like to make color changes if you wish or follow along below.

Assemble

  1. Line up and pin your pockets to the side panels.

  2. Surface Slip Stitch the pockets to the panel.  To Surface Slip Stitch: Insert hook in starting point, pull yarn through the back and make a SS, insert hook into next space, pull yarn through back and SS.

  3. SC along edge of panel that will NOT be sewn to cover.  So for the front panel this will be the right side, and the back panel this will be the left side.

  4. With wrong sides facing line up the panels to the cover and pin in place.

  5. With right side cover facing you join Neon Green to the upper right corner stitch.

    Insert hook through both pieces of fabric.
  6. SC, in each stitch going through both pieces of fabric.  You should have 24SC on each side that go through both pieces of fabric.  you will have about 18 SC stitches that are only being stitched through one piece of fabric.
  7. 3SC in corner stitch, turn working down the side and crocheting through both pieces of fabric, 2SC over each DC in each row.
  8. 3SC in corner stitch, turn working the bottom side, SC in each stitch, going through both pieces of fabric where necessary.
  9. 3SC in corner stitch, turn working down the side and crocheting through both pieces of fabric, 2SC over each DC in each row.
  10. 2SC in first stitch, where you started, SS to first stitch, fasten off and weave in ends.
  11. Insert notebook and enjoy.
