Meet Fray, Curly, and Smooth Leprechaun, these lucky fellows are sure to bring a smile to your face.  These leprechaun’s are made out of basic amigurumi shapes, featuring a spring head attachment to give them that bobble bounce.  Grab your hook and play around with some fun stitches and techniques, with three different mash-ups your sure to have a lucky, bouncing buddy in time for St. Patty’s Day.

Notes

PC or Popcorn stitch is as follows:

  1. Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops. (2 loops on hook)
  2. Yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over, pull through loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops. (3 loops on hook)
  3. yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over, pull through loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops. (4 loops on hook)
  4. yarn over pull through remaining 4 loops. (1 loop on hook)

Amigurumi is worked in the round, each round is NOT joined with a SS unless otherwise indicated.  Using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch in each round is recommended.

Bodies are made from the top down and the heads are made from the bottom up.  For each part we start with making a cavity for the spring to rest in.

Triangle Shapes

Body

The triangle body is made from the top down; with Grass Make a MR and CH1,

Round 1: 4SC in MR, SS to first stitch. (4SC)

Slip the belt around bodies, and position buckle to front of body.  Sew Buckle onto body through the belt, this secures both the belt and buckle in place.

Insert hook from front to back around stitch.

Pull yarn ends through loop.

Brush or fray the ends.

Sew hat and beard into place and glue on eyes on each head like so:

Assemble

Now let’s make our spring so the bobble heads can bobble.  If you have a spring lying around the garage or in a pen you can use it here.  For purposes of this pattern I wanted to show how to make a spring with material anyone should be able to get in case you don’t have one lying around.

Wrap wire around your finger three times like so:

Wrap wire around pencil about 8 times. Flip over and straighten one end.

Glue the part you wrapped around finger to the body cavity.

Stick the head cavity to the folded over end of wire.
