Spring is in the air, so is a brisk wind.  Ditch those winter blues and keep warm with this very springy, infinity scarf.  This scarf is a breeze to make up, using mostly double crochet stitches, and lots of pom-pom making fun.  You can wear it long, or double wrap it for a chunkier look, either way its a hoot to make.

Finished Size:

7in. by 60in

Supplies:

    • Patons Grace Light Weight (3) 100% Mercerized Cotton
      • Lemon Lime (3, 50g/1.75oz skeins)
      • Lotus (1, 50g/1.75oz skein)
    • 4.0mm Hook
    • Sewing Needle
    • Large Book
    • Scissors


Stitches:

CH – Chain

DC – Double Crochet

Notes:

  • Pattern is worked in rows then sewn at the end.
  • * to * indicates a repeated stitch sequence.

Pom-Pom’s

To begin you will need to make approximately 80 pom-poms.

  1. With Lotus yarn wrap around large book, or object, (a cereal box works) 30 times.

2. Cut a 6in. piece of Lotus yarn.

3. Tie yarn around bundle as tight as you can.

4. Gentle wiggle the yarn off the book.

5. Cut and tie 6in. yarn pieces approximately 1in. apart around the entire loop.  The closer you can get them the less cutting you will need to do later.  For your first round give yourself some extra room if you need practice.

6. Cut out of loop by cutting in the center between ties.

7. Holding the fluffy ends between your index and thumb fingers, squish.

8. Trim until shapes and fluffed, keep them under 1in.

9. Cut 4 strands of Lemon Lime string approximately 90in long.

10. Thread needle, and string 20 pom-pom’s on each strand, you can keep them bunched.

11. Set aside.

Scarf

With Lemon Lime CH 201.

Row 1: DC in second CH from hook and in each CH space, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 2: DC in each stitch across, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 3: DC in each stitch across, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 4: Carry one threaded pom-pom yarn for entire row, DC in First 4 stitches, *pull up a pom-pom, DC in next 10 stitches,* 19 times, pull up a pom-pom, DC in the last 6 stitches, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Leave a six in. tail and begin encasing the pom-pom thread in stitch.

Throughout each stitch you will continue to encase the pom-pom thread.

To pull up a pom-pom, just slide it up the thread to the last stitch created.

Push the pom-pom to the front of the fabric and DC into next stitch. **No stitches should be skipped.**

After completing the first stitch after pom-pom is pulled up you may need to tidy up the thread.

To tidy, just gently pull until pom pom is firmly in place then continue with the DC’s.

Row 5: DC in each stitch across, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 6: DC in each stitch across, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 7: DC in each stitch across, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 8: Carry one threaded pom-pom yarn for entire row, DC in First 9 stitches, *pull up a pom-pom, DC in next 10 stitches,* 19 times, pull up a pom-pom, DC in the last stitch, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 12: Carry one threaded pom-pom yarn for entire row, DC in First 4 stitches, *pull up a pom-pom, DC in next 10 stitches,* 19 times, pull up a pom-pom, DC in the last 6 stitches, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 13: DC in each stitch across, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 17: DC in each stitch across, CH1, turn work. (200DC)

Row 18: DC in each stitch across, fasten off, weave in ends, including the pom-pom threads. (200DC)

Finish Up

Fold your scarf in half with the wrong side facing.

Whip stitch the ends together making a continuous loop.
